Subject: Help with chat
Can someone please answer the following:
1) Is there a windows platform program that allows you to use
Winsock, and that is a chat program for over the internet?
2) Also what are some ways to communicate with other people
over the net realtime (besides a MUD, and talk command)?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Subject: win32 sockets
I've got a problem with win32 and winsock. What I want is one thread
that listens to one of two input sources, either a socket or (in my
case) a Sybase connection. My problem is that I've set the Sybase
connection to signal me with a win32 event when it is done, but I have
a problem with telling when the socket is ready to read.
I could use WSAAsyncSelect, but I'm going to be running this as a
service, and it's not clear to me (and others, apparently) under what
circumstances a service can create a window (as requred for
WSAAsyncSelect). If I could create a window, I cound use
MsgWaitForMultipleObjects() to do what I want. Since I'll be a
service, I'd rather not use a window anyway.
What I really want is something similar to WSAAsyncSelect that uses a
win32 event to signal when it is ready.
Any suggestions? Has anyone else faced this problem? What solution
did you use?
TIA.
Eric.

Well, then I'm not in good shape. My 64MB of memory seems to throw me
into that category.
Bummer. Any chance someone will fix this someday?

I would expect that you could get a much better response if you addressed
your question to the comp.infosystems.wais newsgroup.
I played with WinWAIS and WAISMan for awhile, but couldn't figure out
how to develop a list of servers easily, so I gave up.

Maybe your reverse lookup is messed up. But you should be able to
'nslookup' a site. So:
'nslookup some.site.ijust.thought.of' w/o the single quotes should do
it.

He's using CHAMELEON under Windows. There's no 'nslookup' available.
There IS, however, wshost, which does essentially the same thing.
ftp.halcyon.com:/pub/tiskwin/wshost.zip.
But again, for nslookup to work (or wshost, or whois, or...) you
STILL need a nameserver to point to, or one hell of a big hosts
file, for which you'll need to add IP numbers from *somewhere*.
